Smooth Move for Seniors is more than a packing/downsizing company. We are transition genies with unlimited wishes. Let us pack, label and itemize all your belongings so that the move goes smoothly. We will make the arrangements if you’re looking to sell, donate or dispose of any items. We’ll help to arrange movers, shredding and disposal companies. We can definitely be there to unpack, set up and take away all the cartons on moving day.

We work with clients of all ages, and with us you can trust your personal belongings are in good hands. It can feel awkward always relying on family or friends to help, so give us a call instead.

Following that, a personalized plan is drawn up. Whether it’s a complete move to a smaller home or just a time in your life where you’d like an extra set of hands (decluttering a room or two), this is your time to enjoy your life and new adventures. We are committed to decreasing the spread of COVID-19. We wear masks, wash hands before, during, and after the work and maintain 6 feet apart at all times. We take your concerns seriously and are happy to answer any questions you may have.

Moving / Decluttering

We know first-hand how hard it is to take that first step into something new. Let us be there along the way to make the transition as easy as possible. Our program is tailored to make your move 100% stress-free. So, whether it’s a full move to downsize or you just want to empty out a couple of rooms, you can count on us.

  • Pack (we have all the packing materials) / Unpack (set up and removal of boxes)
  • Oversee movers
  • Have items donated, disposed of, sold (taken to consignment stores/arrange for appraisers)
  • Assist in shredding, house cleaning and junk removal.
  • Declutter a home – pack up and label “personal items” so the house is ready for photo’s / selling.
  • Help with cancelling and/or transferring utilities

Estate Clean up

When a loved one, friend or neighbour has passed away, Smooth Move for Seniors would like to be there to lend a helping hand. If there are no family members around, we will work with estate trustees to respectively have the house packed up and/or emptied. Be confident in knowing that the house contents will be sorted (sold, donated or disposed of) or boxed and labelled for loved ones. The home will be ready to sell.

  • Sort all items (donate, try to sell or dispose of)
  • Distribute items to family members, loved ones or friends as per requested
  • Arrange for basic house cleaning
  • Have home completely emptied, ready for the next step

Personalized Solutions

Our specialty lies in giving you a customized experience. As Project Managers (with excellent listening skills), we cater to what your needs are. Every client is different and therefore requires different services– from sorting, packing and setting up at your new residence. We work with you step-by-step and make sure everything is covered. Our company excels in listening, planning and completing all tasks required to get the job done efficiently, economically and respectively.

Smooth Move is environmentally-friendly! Instead of throwing away food, clothes, and household items, we donate them to the food bank, Canadian Diabetes Association, Kidney Foundation of Canada, the Cerebral Palsy Foundation, and local churches. We can turn your transition into a ‘pay it forward’ moment, giving items you no longer need to those who can cherish them and use them going forward.

Laurie Gunton, CEO

Mother of 3 and busy volunteer in the community, Laurie started this company to give back to the people who deserve it the most. Seniors are an enormous part of all our lives – they are our parents, grand-parents and treasured mentors. “They’ve done so much for us, now is our chance to return the favour.”

20+ Years Experience

Laurie is backed with 20 + years of combined Sales, Customer Service and Management experience, and a B.A. in Sociology from York University. She has since taken courses to become a Certified Relocation and Transition Specialist. In order to maintain this certification it requires taking ongoing seniors courses. She also completed VSS (Vulnerable Sector Screening) through the Toronto Police Service.

She has the skills needed to provide clients with a positive moving experience and help them look forward to making new memories. Having done many moves already, she has developed a reliable and tested method of making moving exciting and pain-free.


Community Volunteer

Laurie has volunteered at the Canadian Mental Health Association, Big Brothers, New Leaders at Sunnybrook Hospital, Habitat for Humanity and Victim Services. Through these volunteer experiences she has gained knowledge and compassion for what matters to her most… people.

Just Returning the Favor

Laurie created Smooth Move because she saw a huge need for that extra helping hand for the elderly, disabled or ill. There were many people she knew that were getting older, who acknowledged they wanted to move to a smaller home, better suit to their needs, but just couldn’t deal with the hassle of it all. Laurie knew there must be a way to help, and with Smooth Move for Seniors she is able to do just that. 

Recently my wife and I (age 88 and 90) decided to move to a retirement home. There were oodles of clothing and furniture that we had to get rid of or give away etc. Into our lives came a very polite, intelligent young lady with a pleasing personality and pleasant smile. She took over this daunting task of helping us move. A more determined, persevering and delightful person you will never meet. She was punctual, constantly at our beck and call and a tireless worker. She worked miracles on an impossible task and made our move more bearable. I have no hesitation in recommending her highly for the task she is obviously well suited for.
